Sunny Isles Beach History
he modern history of Sunny Isles Beach began in 1920 when a private investor bought 2.26 square miles of land in the area and named it Sunny Isles. The completion of the Haulover Bridge in 1925 made this area accessible from Miami Beach. This attracted a number of developers who developed the area for building high class waterfront properties. The development work picked up pace during the 1950s and 1960s. The 1970s witnessed the development of condominium communities. Gradually the area saw increased traffic of North American and European tourists, and now it is regarded as one of the most desirable oceanfront communities.
