Weston, Florida, in Broward county, is 8 miles W of Sunrise, Florida (center to center) and 27 miles NW of Miami, Florida. The city is situated on the south Atlantic Coast of Florida and is included in the South Florida metropolitan area. A large portion of the community was developed by Arvida/JMB Partners. It's regarded as an upper middle class/affluent community. In 2006 Weston was ranked 20th by Money Magazine on their "Biggest Earners" list.
It's regarded as a planned community. The city includes a sizeable Hispanic population and numerous bilingual stores. Weston features wide streets and has a manicured appearance.
The acreage now known as Weston was acquired during the 1950's by Arthur Vining Davis, the founder of the Arvida development company. In 1984 homes were constructed and Weston had its first group of residents. The city expanded its acreage by annexation of land.
Weston Attractions and Activities
The city features numerous parks for outdoor activities. Weston includes an historic Tequesta Indian burial mound. Residents enjoy the activities at the boardwalk and the scenic beach at nearby Hollywood. The popular beaches of the Greater Fort Lauderdale region are close by. The Pompano Beach is enjoyed by families. The region features a large number of quality golf courses including Flamingo Lakes Country Club, Cooper Colony Country Club, Arrowhead Golf Course and the Colony West Country Club. There are plenty of fishing opportunities in the area. Residents enjoy visiting nearby Boca Raton.
The city is served by the nearby Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport.
